Review: Jimmy vs Jimmy at Melbourne Comedy Festival
Sam Rankin | On 19, Apr 2015
The Imperial Comedy room, surely a highlight of the festival, has a cracker line up of stand-ups, sketch stars and improvisers of all sorts. Someone who combines all three is Jimmy James Eaton, a mainstay of the Comedy Festival and the wider Melbourne comedy scene.
Eaton freewheels through subjects with ease using impressive beat-boxing, a simple yet effective video introduction and a plethora of characters and stand-up material. Where Jimmy especially shines is his remarkable ability to riff and roll with the punches. He turns a chirpy interrupting audience member into something fun and inclusive, matching a mega star like Ross Noble in the freewheeling stakes.
Jimmy James Eaton really feeds off the vibe of the audience, reinforcing a positive and inclusive vibe that can sometimes be lacking from most stand-up shows. With a few nights left in the festival, Jimmy vs Jimmy is a show you should definitely cram into your schedule.
