Review: Raw Pawpaw

I am vegan, hear me raw! Raw of excitement that is.
Merthyr Road recently welcomed Raw Pawpaw, the sixth entity completing the Venzin Group hotspots. (Green Papaya, Mons Ban Sabai, Picnic, Little PawPaw and PawPaw Café making up the other delicious eateries).
A “heaven for healthy eating,” Raw Pawpaw is a small and tidy eatery open for breakfast and lunch. Not another café in New Farm, I hear you sigh? As the name reveals, Raw Pawpaw serves raw, fresh and flavoursome feeds, synonymous with the current #CleanEating trend.
If you’re like me and believe that no piece of bread should go un-buttered, cheesed, or mayo-ed, you may think Raw Pawpaw isn’t for you. But if anything, their fresh food shows that healthy stuff can satisfy even the biggest bacon lover’s palate.
The menu boasts sweet and savoury health favourites, such as muesli, açai bowls, eggs, an Asian-style salad, raw tacos, and more.
If that little snapshot of the menu’s best doesn’t do it for you, I’ll tell you about my choice: the lifestyle board.
Two poached eggs, a piece of seeded, perfectly toasted rye, plenty of goat’s cheese, onion jam, half an avo sprinkled with dukka and topped with a colourful (edible) nasturtium. The lifestyle board was filling and delicious, and didn’t leave me feeling heavy or oily like other weekend breakfasts can.
Drink-wise, you can choose from a wide selection of smoothies, bottled juices, espresso coffee, and tasty teas including everyone’s favourite, chai. A sneaky corner of sweet treats and other take home goodies is also worth a snoop.
Some unique touches make eating at Raw Pawpaw a special experience. An old record player sounds vintage music too alternative for Shazam, and one of the tables in the outdoor dining space is colourfully decorated with a large pawpaw print.
Raw Pawpaw is a great new breakfast and lunch café with an emphasis on health and fabulous flavours. Check it out this weekend.
