Rihanna at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre

| On 05, Oct 2013

Rihanna took the Brisbane stage by storm on Saturday night as she continued her leg of the Diamonds World Tour.

After much controversy in Perth and Adelaide, arriving an hour late and apparently lip-syncing and slurring lyrics, fans were concerned about how she would perform.

However, after only a slight 20-minute delay, Rihanna took to the stage in an obviously clear-eyed, fit manner, with a whole lot of sass.

The star started the show with a few lesser-known tracks before a costume change into white thigh high boots that paved the way for ‘Rude Boy’ and ‘What’s My Name’.

Rihanna also showcased a few reggae songs harnessing her Barbadian heritage.

Despite the fact these songs were unknown I found it refreshing to see her perform a style of music that is quite different from her famous tracks.

Throughout the night Rihanna continued to belt out her smash hits ranging from ‘Phresh out the Runway’, ‘S&M’, ‘Only Girl (In The World)’ and ‘Don’t Stop The Music’.

These were accompanied by an array of embellished costumes, from black and gold oversized jackets, to Mondrian style prints and a red cut out gown.

Despite many claims being made about her lip-syncing it is important to note that any artist who does that much dancing cannot be expected to sing every word of her songs.

It was clearly audible she was singing over the tracks, not lip-syncing.

Her vocals can be praised especially with the closing two ballads of ‘Stay’ and ‘Diamonds’.

I was thoroughly impressed by the Diamonds World Tour.

I would definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a performance filled with dancing, amazing vocals, costumes any fashion guru would appreciate, and a lot of attitude.
