Ben McKenzie scores his first prominent lead role since his Orange County days, and if the trailer is anything to go by, Gotham could be your springtime TV addiction.Â
Gotham tracks right back, and I mean right back, to when Batman wasn’t even a blip in little Bruce Wayne’s head. It focuses on the underbelly of crime, and circumstances through which the famous personalities of the Riddler, the Penguin, Poison Ivy, Cat Woman and of course Batman, are borne. They’re all kids at this point in time though, so there’s a whole set of new “goodies†and “baddies†who do most of the fighting.
Gotham is an absolute hot mess of a city, and Detective James Gordon (who later becomes the Commissioner Gordon of the Dark Knight series), is tasked with cleaning up the streets. Gordon’s duties cause him to cross paths with the lil’ Wayne after the brutal murder of his parents, and so begins the friendship that will change everything for Gotham city.
Ben McKenzie brings his signature moody, brooding sense of moral fibre to the character of James Gordon, not to mention that bad boy vibe we loved in The O.C. Expect fisticuffs, steamy encounters with dangerous women, and dark alleyways galore. Gotham doesn’t air in the US until at least September, and we can expect it soon after. For now, this extended trailer will have to suffice – enjoy!
