Smiling is Infectious
Though the end of summer may be just around the corner, the silly season fun is far from over.
The Brisbane Comedy Festival is on again and one thing is guaranteed: a month of laughter and lunacy awaits the crowds that will soon descend upon the city’s Powerhouse Theatre.
Running from the 26th of February until the 24th of March, the Festival continues to showcase some of the best comedic talent from Australia and around the world. After all, with a line-up that boasts 52 performers (including comedic superstars Stephen K Amos and Danny Bhoy) hilarity is sure to ensue.
Amos, known for his wit and painfully funny observations of life, returns this year with his latest sold-out show The Spokesman. With tickets beginning at just $36, it’s a small price to pay for big laughs.
A little later in the month, Danny Bhoy steps up to the mic to present his comedic love letter to… letters (and no, we’re not talking the alphabetic kind). The comedian pledges to give his audiences “a stand-up show with some sitting downâ€. That promise translates into an unforgettable night of mischief.
Also making her debut in Brisbane is Britain’s Sarah Millican. Millican has gained a legion of Australian fans thanks, in part, to her appearances on the ABC’s QI and Would I Lie to You?
Closer to home, perennial favourites Will Anderson, Tom Gleeson and Dave O’Neil are locked in and ready to show-off their Aussie comedic chops. Few things are ever off limits with these boys, so audiences should get ready for what is sure to be a wild night.
Local boy made good Josh Thomas presents Douchebag, a show that sets out to be both funny and touching. Will he succeed? If the reviews from our southern neighbours are anything to go by, there can be little doubt.
So you can forget about singing the winter blues just yet. The 2013 Brisbane Comedy Festival is rolling to town and is ready to do what it does best: spreading smiles across faces. This is one bug you’ll definitely want to catch.
