The Southgate Moveable Feasts: Artusi Restaurant

Melbourne’s winter most enjoyable dining adventure is back for another season, following an acclaimed premiere last year. Southgate Moveable Feasts rule is simple: three courses meal at three different riverside restaurants on Sundays and Mondays from 14 June – 3 August.
Featuring restaurants like Lindt Chocolate Café, Bluetrain or The Deck Restaurant, The Southgate Moveable Feasts also introduces Artusi, a gourmet Italian restaurant, full of surprises.
Your entrée: the location. Located on the third floor of the Southgate, Artusi overlooks the Yarra River and offers an incredible view on Melbourne’s icon, Flinders Station. Thanks to a terrace, as well as large windows across all the restaurant, Artusi proposes a calm and peaceful dining atmosphere with a stunning view. The decoration proposed is modern but sophisticated, featuring copper elements and wooden tables which gives the place a classy touch.
Main Course: the head chef, Nicola Romano. Bringing ten years of international experience to Artusi, Nicola has developed a menu that illustrates his passion for creating dishes which focus on the pure taste of the produce. Travelling throughout Europe to further develop his technical skills and molecular cuisine, Nicola worked at renowned Michelin Star restaurants such as Restaurante Martin Berasategui in Spain and Viajante in London before being a finalist in the 2012 Best Italian Young Chef awards internationally. At Artusi, he aims to build his own style decomposing products before recreating gourmet dishes. “I like playing with texture, ingredients. For example I’ve recreated the traditional meringue replacing eggs by milk making a completely different texture. And that’s what I like in cooking, amaze people with experimental cuisineâ€, says Nicola.
Finally the dessert: the cuisine. Nicola Romano – Italian himself – proposes traditional homemade Italian dishes with a traditional savoir-faire. I had the chance to watch the confection of gnocchi, from simple potatoes to a tasty and flavorous dish. Although it might sound like a simple combination for a gourmet restaurant, I can assure you that the taste of those gnocchi were like heaven: light and suave, served with a tomato purée made with garlic and fresh basil.
Here are the three courses you’ll be served at Artusi restaurant: a charming place with a talented head chef and a delicious cuisine. So don’t hesitate to stop by this restaurant during the Southgate Moveable Feasts, it is waiting to surprise you…
