September has hit, time to pack away your knits and boots and start planning your Spring/ Summer wardrobe.
As the Brisbane summer stretches well beyond February it is worth considering what new purchases you want (need!) to make, what existing pieces to bring back into rotation and which trends you want to tap into. Luckily Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival Brisbane has just wrapped, where all the hottest trends were shown. Stay ahead of the masses and make the most of your trend purchases by following our Spring/ Summer 2015 trend guide.
Next Gen Femininity: Rethink your idea of feminine dressing, this season feminine dressing is chic, youthful and incredibly wearable. Skirts are full and straight but always below the knee. Wear with a structured cropped top, tshirt or blouse to take your skirt from work to weekend. Up the ante with leg lengthening heels or pair with man sandals for an on trend statement. Take care to always keep the waist defined by tucking in the top half or belting the look.
Head-To-Toe White: The ultimate summer statement, an all white outfit speaks freshness, confidence and sartorial prowess. New to the trend? Try a white dress or shorts and tee combo to ease into bolder statements of palazzo or skinny trousers and a billowing blouse. Keep the cupboard stocked with Napi San!
Modern Boheme: A far cry from early 2000’s ‘Boho’, this modern bohemian look is refined, elegant and effortless. Relaxed silhouettes are perfectly cut to flatter the body in luxe fabrics. Use fringing, embellishments and accessories selectively for best results. Don’t be afraid to take your bohemian dress into the night with heels and an effortlessly waved mane.
Monochrome: Black and white is a regular fixture on the global runways. This season update the look with busy prints, sharp lines and a dramatically high or low neck and hem lines. Keep the look on trend with monochrome accessories or one punch of colour.
Sheer: Playful and flirty the sheer trend will be huge for Spring/ Summer 2015. Translate it into your everyday wardrobe with sheer blouses and skirts which are sheer from thigh onwards. To avoid sending the wrong message layer where appropriate and always opt for luxurious lingerie with a sheer blouse.
Orange: We are calling it, Orange is the colour of Spring/ Summer 2015! Shades of orange flooded the MBFF runways in block hits of colour as well as prints. Pair with red for a statement or opt for orange accessories if colour shy. Tangerine, peach, burnt orange, amber, coral and apricot; there is a shade of orange to suit all complexions.
Now you know the big trends for this season consider what works with your existing aesthetic and always stay true to your style. There is nothing worse than being a victim of the trends!
