Grab your petticoat  and set your pincurls – Greazefest is coming back to town this winter. We give you our picks for a weekend full of rock ‘n roll fun.

Greazefest has been sweeping Brisbane off its feet every winter for 16 years as a popup spectacular for lovers of everything 40s and 50s, seeing in over 15,000 fans last year with its’ branch out to a Melbourne venue – it’s earnt a reputation as “Christmas for the rockabilly subculture”.

From July 31 in Brisbane, Friday night will see the festival kick off with of the best rockabilly, psychobilly and hillbilly bands from Brisbane and around the globe, as well as a rock ‘n roll DJ and a tiki bar to set the dance party off ’til late.

Originally a Brisbane-only event, Greazefest will be repeating the success of last year’s branch out to Melbourne, with a new selection of Melbourne bands giving the lineup new energy.

“We pride ourselves on delivering the highest standard of entertainment, and this year we also have an amazing selection  of  local  bands  from  both  Brisbane and Melbourne that are being added to the bill and are sure to bring their own flavour to the already strong lineup,” says festival organiser Lori Lee Cash.

Notable showrunners include Sweden’s The Go Getters, delivering their own special brand of ‘ass-kickin’, blues-marinated, high-octane, mega-watt rockabilly boogie”, playing the festival Saturday nights, as well as New Zealand’s Labretta Suede and the Motel 6 with their cheeky, breathy, high-energy brand of rock ‘n roll.

Greazefest is also home to 150 market stalls on the Saturday and Sunday, with photographers, rockabilly barbers, dressmakers, vinyl record sellers and tattoo artists.

Find out how to customise the car of your dreams with Von Hot Rod workshops, all the way from California, as well as the Hot Rod Show displaying over 700 cars.

“…GreazeFest is a chance to get dressed to the nines and be surrounded by like-minded folk. People make such an effort with their appearance, and just like clockwork GreazeFest rolls around every August allowing plenty of time to plan, prepare and perfect their ensemble,” says rockabilly blogger and festival regular Sheri Bomb.
