Keen to have a concert in your cul-de-sac? Well, time to nominate your suburb as Street Serenades is back for its encore in this September’s Brisbane Festival.

Brisbane Festival is bringing art, music, and entertainment across Brisbane from 3-25 September. The full program will unveil in early July, but the announcement of last year’s highlight, Street Serenades, is already drawing attention.

Street Serenades’ debut last year was the biggest music extravaganza in Brisbane’s history. Free pop-up mini concerts on pink pimped out trucks dazzled 190 Brisbane suburbs from the cul-de-sacs to the parks. The 30-minute performances covered various styles and genres, including classical and contemporary music, cabaret, and dance.

The Palaszczuk Government is giving an additional $350,000 in support. Hence, allowing Brisbane Festival to turn up the volume with this year’s rendition, Street Serenades: At Our Place.

Street Serenades: At Our Place is promising bigger performances, more local talents, and a new initiative. The initiative is a partnership with neighbourhood and community centres to bring a series of 64 creative arts workshops all over Brisbane. But, most importantly, we are finally allowed to get up from our seats and dance to our heart’s content.

Brisbane Festival Artistic Director Louise Bezzina said, “At its roots, Street Serenades is all about bringing people together, building positive community connections, and increasing our interactions with people in our neighbourhood and across the city,”

“We hope Street Serenades: At Our Place will encourage audience members to connect with the broader community, feel at home, develop, and enhance new skills, and create some serious local pride!”

Nominate your suburb today, and together, we can revolutionise Brisbane’s music history once again. Applications open from 14-30 April for individuals or community groups in any of the 190 suburbs. Brisbane Festival will announce the winners for Street Serenades: At Our Place during the program launch in July.
