The best place to see a film in Brisbane

Cathy Dee

So you’ve got some spare time on your hands and want to catch up with the latest that the cinema has to offer. Question is where should you go? Well I’ve spent a fair amount of time trying out different theatres in Brisbane and my top three are listed below –

Cineplex at South Bank

Probably my most frequented cinema, South Bank offers all the latest releases but with a very reasonable ticket price. South Bank has five theatres, one of which is called the “MAX” theatre. Boasting the biggest screen in Brisbane (25 metres!) this cinema promises maximum sound and maximum picture. So if you’re interested in catching the latest film in the most intense cinema in Brisbane, South Bank “MAX” theatre is where you’ll want to be.

Location: 167 Grey St, South Bank

Tickets: $4.50 – $11

Event at Brisbane City Myer Centre

Of all the cinemas I’ve been to in Brisbane this one has got to have the most comfortable seats. This cinema offers seven senstadium cinemas that combine the three essentials of movie going – sight, sound and comfort! In addition the theatre has a Vmax cinema that takes a normal movie experience and makes it bigger. Bigger screen, bigger seats and bigger sound. So if you’re looking to enjoy your next movie outing in the most comfortable way possible, I suggest visiting the Event cinemas at the Brisbane City Myer Centre.

Location: Level 3, Myer Centre, Elizabeth St, Brisbane

Tickets: $12.50 – $17 (Vmax is slightly more expensive $15.50 – $20)

Dendy at Portside

Perhaps one of the classier cinemas in Brisbane, Dendy at Portside offers a unique film experience. In place of the regular candy bar you’ll find at most cinemas, Portside has a fully licensed bar. So in addition to your choc top you can enjoy a glass of wine. Portside has five cinemas, one of which only has about 30 seats, creating an intimate atmosphere for patrons lucky enough to see their film in this theatre. So if you’re interested in finding a fancier option for your next cinematic experience Dendy at Portside could be right up your alley.

Location: Portside Wharf, Remora Rd, Hamilton

Tickets: $12.50 – $17.50
