The Brisbane Festival 2019 Program is here!
Queensland’s largest arts and culture festival has announced its program for 2019!
The Brisbane Festival 2019 program is out, and it promises the perfect spring-time remedy for those winter blues. From September 6 to 28, the Brisbane Festival will bring together the best of Brisbane and beyond for 23 days of performances, shows and installations across the city.
2019 marks Artistic Director David Berthold’s fifth and final Brisbane Festival program, and it’s set to be a winner all round. Featuring 83 different shows involving over 908 artists from all around the world, the program centres around the theme ‘Revels, Revelations and Romances’.
Among this year’s offerings is a collaboration between renowned international artists 59 Productions the Rambert dance company titled Invisible Cities, which was specially commissioned for the festival. It’s just one of many exciting projects in store for what will be, in Berthold’s words, “the most adventurous” Brisbane Festival yet.
International highlights of the program include appearances from celebrated Chinese choreographer Yang Liping, South Africa’s Isango music theatre ensemble and French Compagnie Carabosse performance collective.
There’s plenty of local love too! The program features a bounty of Brisbane-based artists — among them songstress and Eurovision star Kate Miller-Heidke, pop darlings Cub Sport, and several contributions from the renowned La Boite Theatre Company. The Brisbane Festival 2019 is also getting involved in Riverstage’s 30th birthday celebrations, with the iconic outdoor venue playing host to four outdoor concerts.
As you make your way between performances, be sure to look out for the installations taking over popular city sites. This year, the City Botanic Gardens will light up with Fire Gardens, and as always there will be plenty to explore along the South Bank Cultural Forecourt.
In keeping with tradition, Brisbane Festival 2019 will go out with a bang. Sunsuper Riverfire will deliver an unmissable evening along Brisbane River on September 28, bringing the program to a spectacular close.
