The Brisbane Street Art Festival: The Greatest Year %
Drumroll please for the greatest street art festival in Australia! The Brisbane Street Art Festival is back and celebrating its fourth year with live mural art, music, theatre, panel talks, exhibitions, creative master classes and workshops conducted by leading artists. The two-week city-wide celebration will be running from 4 – 19 May 2019.
Aspiring artists, budding creatives, hobbyists and curious denizens are all welcome to attend this FREE festival. The streets will be awash with colour by artists from countries including England, Spain, Nepal, China and Argentina. Additionally, home-grown artists such as Leonie Rhodes, Leans and Sofles will also be showcasing their talents.
“Our goal is to help create one of the most vibrant, culturally rich cities in Australia that supports the development of emerging artists and continues to empower its creative industries through BSAF,” said festival director Lincoln Savage.
The program celebrates the diversity of the street art community with 27 amazing female street artists who are taking part. Most noteworthy, Argentinean duo Medianeras and Colombian born Zurik are helping to break gender disparity in street art.
Furthermore, BSAF is proud to have a number of Indigenous artists in the program. This year we’re collaborating with Digi Youth Arts with their “Where We Stand” program.
In addition, the “Within These Walls” group exhibition will showcase artworks in a traditional gallery setting at the West Village in West End. Exhibition opening night set for the evening of Saturday, May 4th.
The 2019 Festival Launch Party to be held at Howard Smith Wharves on the evening of Sunday, May 5th. The precinct will be taken over by live painting, live music and performance as we celebrate the launch of the program.
