The Flying Cock

The Flying Cock

| On 11, Aug 2015

Located on Brunswick Street in the heart of the Valley, what used to be home to the Tempo Hotel has become the new roost of already legendary, The Flying Cock.

Describing themselves as a ‘gastropub’ (a pub that specialises in serving high-quality food) and a ‘dive bar’ (serving cheap drinks to a regular clientele) The Flying Cock more than delivers.

The revamped venue takes up a whole two levels on the corner of Brunswick and McLachlan Streets and has quickly become the Valley’s newest watering hole on everybody’s lips.

Get a group together on a Sunday afternoon, crowd around one of the reclaimed tables and settle in for the night to gorge yourselves on share plates and pints.

The stripped back interiors echo some memory of the venue’s former life as Tempo, industrial-chic almost, while the walls are adorned with eclectic portraits of Australian treasures including Kylie Minogue, Johnny Farnham and even Kath and Kim.

The menu features an extensive list of all of your favourite pub grub delights taken up a notch including chicken parmy with fries and house slaw, schnitty with mushroom sauce, fries and house slaw or a classic pub steak. And then there’s always wings.

If burgers are more your style you  might struggle to choose. Perhaps the Captain Chook V2: fried chicken treated to generous lashings of blue cheese and house-made chipotle sauce.

Or maybe the CBC burger with a Doritos encrusted chicken breast, bacon, coleslaw and house-made sauce.

If you’re feeling particularly hungry you could attempt to tackle the bacon double cheeseburger with two slow cooked beef patties, double cheese, double maple bacon, topped with pickles, tomato, mustard and aioli.

The staff insist their chicken parmigiana is more than worth a try. Head down on a Wednesday to enjoy their hump day special: two parmys for $19.99 with any drink purchase.

After dinner make your way upstairs to enjoy some craft beer and listen to the house band, Birdman Randy & the Ivory St Preachers play covers of classic tunes, or downstairs to the TBC nightclub.

Go check out The Flying Cock from 11am to 3am seven days a week.
