The most anticipated movie sequels of 2014

The most anticipated movie sequels of 2014

| On 01, Jan 2014

A good movie franchise always has a large following of committed, passionate and long lasting fans.

Whether you connect with a specific character or the underlying values of a series, it’s likely that you will watch every instalment; possibly bi-annually like myself.

While most series don’t span over eight movies like the all time favourite, the Harry Potter series, we are lucky enough to get two or three films out of our favourite franchise.

The three top grossing movies of 2013 were movie sequels, and it won’t be surprising to see this happen again in 2014.

Here are some of the most anticipated movie sequels set for release in 2014.

1.    The Amazing Spider Man 2

Following the success of the Amazing Spider Man in 2012, the man in the skin-tight suit will return in the blockbuster sequel. With Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker and Emma Watson as Gwen, you can enjoy some action, romance and killer eye candy.

Set for release in May 2014.

2.    How to Train Your Dragon 2

Five years on, the unstoppable Viking and Dragon duo, Hiccup and Toothless, return to take audiences on adventures into the new and mysterious world of dragons. This is sure to be one of the best animated films of the year.

Set for release in June 2014.

3.    The Expendables 3

The Expendables 3 will see the return of old favourites including Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham and Terry Crews, with the promising addition of Antonio Banderas, Mel Gibson, Harrison Ford and Wesley Snipes. This is a must see for all the action lovers out there.

Set for release in August 2014.

4.    Dumb and Dumber To

Just the title of this film makes me squirm with grammatical uncomfortableness. 2014 will mark 20 years since Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels appeared on our cinema screens as Dumb and Dumber. The hilarious duo return 20 years older, but definitely not 20 years wiser.

Set for release in November 2014.

5.    The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1

With the second film having recently dominated our cinemas, there is already buzz surrounding the third instalment. The Hunger Games franchise is cashing in on the industry trend of extending a single book into two films. Whether or not the final book actually warrants a two-part movie recount, the more movies the better!

Set for release in November 2014.

Note: Mockingjay Part 1 trailer pending.

Other note worthy sequels that will grace our cinema screens in 2014 include; Jurassic Park 4, X-Men: Days of Future Past, Transformers 4, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and 22 Jump Street.

Remember, a movie marathon is always a good way to get up to speed or refresh your memory for the release of a new sequel… there is still plenty of time to watch them all!
