The Queensland Ballet with the Queensland Symphony Orchestra brings to life the classic tale of the Nutcracker Ballet.

The Nutcracker Ballet is an all time favourite Christmas performance.

First performed in St. Petersburg in 1892 the original production was not a huge success.

However, since the 1960s The Nutcracker has enjoyed enormous popularity as ballet companies around the world perform the classic tale for the Christmas season.

The story begins on a cold Christmas Eve night.

Young Clara and her family have gathered to decorate the tree for the night’s festivities.

Her godfather gives the children a beautiful wooden Nutcracker, which Clara immediately adores.

After everyone retreats to the bedrooms, Clara sneaks out to check on her beloved Nutcracker.

The clock strikes midnight and from here the adventure begins.

Clara is welcomed into a wonderful fantasy world, protected by the Nutcracker and his solider from the evil giant mice.

She travels through moonlit pine forests to the Land of Sweets ruled by the Sugar Plum Fairy.

The Nutcracker is truly a story for the entire family, harnessing imagination and the capacity people have to dream.

The tale is told perfectly through the beautiful dance of ballet and supported with Tchaikovsky magnificent musical score.

Unfortunately the Brisbane production of The Nutcracker has sold out.

However, for those who missed out on tickets there is always The Nutcracker film and below a video of the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy from the Royal Opera Ballet.
