PicSeeder competition for up-and-coming filmmakers
PicSeeder has been established to give emerging filmmakers a break, by financing their film. Applicants have to go through a few simple steps to be in the running, first upload a one minute video pitch, secondly pay the entry fee (AUD$28 and this is the only fee you’ll pay) and third share and promote your pitch to gain votes.
PicSeeder understands that part of being a filmmaker is about campaigning, so anyone with a picSeeder account can vote, regardless of whether you submitted a pitch. Registration is free and can be done using your Facebook login details. You can vote for as many pitches as you like, but can only vote for a pitch once, picSeeder is a fair organisation. If you’re worried that your small network of friends won’t be enough to gain enough votes, fear not because picSeeder staff view all videos and if it’s something they really like it will be featured prominently and hopefully this will bring in more votes.
Entries close on 4 May, 2013 and voting is open until a week after this (so you have until 11 May to vote for your favourite pitch). After voting closes the top 12 pitches will be short-listed. If you’re lucky enough to be short-listed you will be given two weeks to prepare a three minute pitch detailing how you plan to make your film and basically selling your final case to the judges. The judging panel is made up of five industry professionals from around the world, so be sure to impress! The winners will receive funding for their film up to $50 000 and the two runners-up will receive a DSLR or post-production software.
The best thing about picSeeder is that they give you full creative control over your film, you own your film and everything about it. PicSeeder will only supervise to make you are making the film you said you would make.
So if this sounds like something you’d be interested in, or you’d love to cast your vote to help an up-and-coming filmmaker head to the picSeeder website to learn more. But be quick! Entries close 4 May and voting closes the 11 May!
