The Trends For Summer 2014
Jordan Maass | On 05, Nov 2014
It’s time to get a head start for the season ahead and see what’s on trend for Summer 2014.
Sometimes it’s hard each season to know what to wear and how to be ahead of the crowd, but with these seven trends, you are sure to be looking fashion forward. From relaxed suits to statement prints, Summer 2014 is sure to be a colourful affair.
1. Iridescence / Metallic
On the runways of Richard Nicoll, Jason Wu and Altuzarra, metallic or iridescence was featured heavily in skirts, jackets and dresses. I would suggest only to wear one piece in either material, not a full outfit. It may be a little overpowering.
For a light and airy material, mesh is the essential for hot summer days. With designers like Milly, Jay Ahr and Balmain using mesh in jackets, midi skirts and crop tops, it works perfectly from day to night.
3. Relaxed Suits
Sure to be in every woman’s wardrobe for the season, a relaxed suit is the perfect option for those important events. From Acne Studios to Christophe Lemaire, they have been featured in grey, white, anchor patterns and tan.
4. Black & White
If you’re afraid of colour, don’t be too worried about Summer fashion. Black and white is quickly becoming the colour set of the season. Guy Laroche, Haider Ackermann and Jean-Pierre Braganza featured monochrome in button ups, silk tuxedos and shimmering minis. Being quite versatile, this trend is easily adapted into your wardrobe.
5. Statement Prints
From Just Cavalli to MSGM, statement prints are all the rage for SS14. In florals, check and stripes, the prints can be on dresses, jackets, pants and romper suits. Be brave and take a risk. Multiple pieces in multiple prints can be chic.
Neon will make you noticed for all the rights reasons this Summer. With designs like Sacai and Vionnet featuring the trend on their runway, I’d opt for tuxedo jackets and pencil jackets for your wardrobe.
From the runway to the gym, athletic dressing is the new style for Summer 2014. In bomber jackets, varsity colours and fashionable sweats, designers like Victoria Beckham, Lacoste and John Galliano all took the athletic approach to the season.
