The Valley Multicultural Festival

Dani Maynard

For your shot of culture this weekend check out the Multicultural Festival which will be lighting up Brisbane’s Fortitude Valley this Saturday 20 July for the very first time. The free festival spans over 9 hours from 1-10pm, and is a lively combination of music, art, markets, dancing and performing artists that will take over the Valley’s Chinatown Mall. The festival will celebrate the diverse mix of cultures and cultural influences that make the Valley such a unique place, and will showcase cultural performances from a range of South East Asian countries.

Enjoy performances from the Filipino Australian Cultural Entertainment group who will be presenting a number of traditional Filipino dance acts throughout the day. You can also check out performances by the Thai Sunday School, who will be presenting cultural dances originating from Thailand. The cultural extravaganza will also display a large variety of market stalls, including the Thai Chiva Suk stall. Get in early to be one of the first 20 customers who will receive a free 10 minute massage!

The usual Valley Markets will still be buzzing in the nearby Brunswick Street Mall if you feel like wandering off to find some vintage fashion pieces or some bargain items. So head into the heart of the Valley this Saturday (during the day for a change!) and enjoy the vibrant sights, sounds and tastes of Brisbane’s diverse cultures.
