The World Food Markets, Powerhouse

| On 04, Dec 2014

Alright Brisbane, it’s time to get excited. The World Food Markets are coming to the Powerhouse and will be filling two December weekends with delicious food, funky bars and chilled tunes. What a time to be alive!

I recently spoke with Julian D’Souza, one of the organisers of the World Food Markets, about what to expect and what to be excited for.

“It’s essentially a food truck market. It’s part of the Wonderland festival- that’s happening inside the Powerhouse and the food markets are happening outside,’ he said.

‘I used to run Watt at the Brisbane powerhouse downstairs. I’d walk up the stairs and have a look at the plaza and kept thinking ‘we really need to do something here’.

‘The Powerhouse is a food precinct already. They have restaurants, they have function spaces, they’ve got festivals, food pop up stalls, so the fact that these markets are finally happening- I’m stoked!”

With 20 different vendors, there’s sure to be something to suit every tastebud, with food trucks galore bringing sensational international cuisine. The World Food Markets will also be held in conjunction with the Wonderland Festival. As you walk around the Powerhouse with a bowl of food, you’ll be entertained by roving circus and street performers, singers, comedians and cabaret stars who will beguile and entice you.

Here is a full list of vendors:

Whilst the markets will be focusing more on the food and the Wonderland performers, it is still a great destination for an exciting Christmas celebration.

“People are going out more often and they like eating street food and they like eating from food trucks.’ Julian said.

“It’s a good opportunity for people to have an informal Christmas party or get together with friends and family. It’s going to be big, that much I can tell you!”

So gather together a party and sort out your plan of attack. Whether you visit the World Food Markets on one night or on them all, it’s set to be a delicious experience.
