This Weekend: Brisbane's own Suitcase Rummage

This Weekend: Brisbane’s own Suitcase Rummage

| On 16, Mar 2014

Brisbane is a city that is bursting with inexpensive weekend pursuits, so with autumn well on its way, now is the time to leisurely indulge in the fantastic market culture that our city offers.

‘Suitcase Rummage’ is a novel and strikingly simple idea – stall-holders fill suitcases with second-hand and local wares that they wish to sell and open shop (suitcase) at Reddacliff Place in the city on the first and third Sunday of each month.

This inner city concept exemplifies everything that the whimsical notions of a market hold without conventional hassle and price tags. Not only is this a fantastic opportunity to stock up on a wide range of pre-loved goods, vintage items, records and general bric-a-brac, Brisbane’s Suitcase Rummage also offers a platform upon which local artists and designers can sell and trial their wares.

Described as a “place for experience, not for commercial gain”, the greater concept and aesthetic of this Suitcase Rummage is one that I find highly appealing. Like many of us, I am a great advocate for a good, old-fashioned market day, so when one mixes that with a little bit of Brisbane autumn sunshine and trinkets of the handmade or vintage sort, you have definitely won me over. With a range of featured stall-holders each month, you are bound to pick up a few unique trinkets.

For those who wish to experience the Rummage by sharing and selling some of their own pre-loved goodies, artwork and handmade wares, the steps for registration and trade are simple provided that you get your application in just one month in advance. All in all, that leaves just enough time to fill your suitcase(s) to the brim!

A Sunday well spent brings a week of content, right? The environment at this Suitcase Rummage allows local stall-holders and eager shoppers to mingle and truly embrace the creative side this city – it’s not to be missed!
