Applications for FAST 2013 are now open.

Applications for the 2013 Festival of Australian Student Theatre (FAST) are now open for student theatre companies wishing to take part in this exciting national event.

The festival is supported by La Boite and QUT Creative Industries. Now in its fourth year, FAST will be celebrated from the 30th of May through to the 1st of June.

Brisbane is once again playing host; no doubt our local budding artists and performers will relish the opportunity to stretch their imagination and take to the stage.

Over 100 performers from all over Australia descended on the River City to meet, learn and share with like-minded individuals in 2012. This year, students will again be given the opportunity to workshop their ideas and showcase their talents to industry professionals.

“We are excited to… have unprecedented access to the Roundhouse theatre,” says FAST Festival Director Nuala Furtado. “And for the first time this year we are also using La Boite’s intimate and adaptable Rehearsal Room”.

The festival also a great way for members of the general public to see Australia’s next crop of young actors up close and personal. Everyone is welcome to come along and enjoy the final productions so look out for the 2013 FAST Program announcement in late April.

What can you expect? Almost anything and everything.

Previously, audiences have enjoyed performances ranging from Sydney University’s surreal thriller, The Country, through to the video production, Of Hope and Dead. FAST students have also taken part in a 24 Hour Play Project that sees a piece devised, scripted and performed in just a single day.

Applicants are encouraged to be original and creative in their ideas. Performances will be selected by a panel of industry figures.

“We will be looking for works that suit both spaces, ranging from traditional theatre forms to live art performances, experimental scratch works and interactive experiences,” explains Furtado.

The productions must also be able to be performed without a heavy reliance upon props and costuming.

Applications close on the 22nd of March and artists can expect to be notified by early April. A copy of the application form can be downloaded from FAST’s official website.

Planning for the Festival of Australian Student Theatre is steadily gaining pace and you don’t want to be left behind. Now is your turn to act… FAST.
