Top 10 summer songs

Top 10 summer songs

| On 21, Jan 2014

Each year as summer passes on by, there is always a random collection of songs that remind you of the good times you just had.

Road trips to the beach, lazy days by the pool and those glorious afternoon drinks in the sun.

In no particular order, here’s my list of top 10 songs that will forever remind me of the sweltering, stormy Brisbane summer of 2013/14.

1)      Your Body is a Weapon - The Wombats

This is one of those catchy, summery tunes that I just can’t help singing along to.

2)      Brontosaurus – Tkay Maidza ft. Bad Cop

Once you hear this track, you can never unhear it (in a good way). This bad boy has been stuck in my head for weeks.

3)      Given the Chance – The Kite String Tangle

Love it. Still not sick of it. Already got tickets for his next show.

4)      Scare Me – Major Lazer

I’ve been obsessed with the Free the Universe album for months, and this song has definitely been on repeat this summer.

5)      Lies – Chvrches

Ah Chvrches are amazing, as is this song. I have no doubt this one will make it into the Triple J Hottest 100 this year.

6)      Timber – Pitbull ft. Ke$ha

Admittedly I’m not proud of this one, but anyone with a radio or ears has heard this song at least once this summer.

7)      Team – Lorde

Despite every radio station overplaying Lorde so much that I was compelled to buy an iPod cord for my car, Team is still one of my favourite songs this summer. Let’s hope the stations don’t get a hold of the other songs on her album.

8)       We Can’t Stop – Miley Cyrus

It’s my mouth I can say what I want to… judge me all you want, but this song never fails to put me in a good mood. Love her or hate her, there’s no denying We Can’t Stop is one of this summer’s anthems.

9)       The Wire – Haim

I was also beginning to borderline despise this song from it being extremely overplayed, but when I take a deep breath and listen to it by choice I remember why I fell in love with it the first time.

10)      XO – Beyonce

And finally, who could forget the Queen. This song’s only been on the circuit for the past few weeks, but it’s already a favourite of mine. Sasha Fierce/Mrs Carter/Queen Bey can do no wrong by me.
