This month, Brisbane’s largest antique hub, the Woolloongabba Antique Centre acts as a worthy setting for SideStreet Vintage’s advertising poster exhibition, “The Art of Shopping.â€
We all know and love the Woolloongabba Antique Center as a one-stop shop for all of our retro and first hand eclectic needs, so the prospect of delving into the world of vintage poster advertisements sits very comfortably with me.
Until 23 June, this major exhibition is set to provide a nostalgic and whimsical glimpse into the world of advertising of the twentieth century. The unique selection of posters on exhibit includes advertising for a eclectic, yet streamlined range of items, from classic film and luxury brands to World War II propaganda and depictions of alcohol, cars and tobacco that would undoubtedly receive Don Draper’s nod of approval. If anything does truly captivate you, items are for to purchase. Luckily for us, there are a handful of weeks left to meander through this uniquely vibrant exhibition.
With the fine collection of poster art ranging from the 1920’s – 1970’s, overlooking “The Art of Shopping†would make you a mad man, so here’s to seizing the opportunity to indulge in a little bit of history and a whole lot of appreciation as to to the changing face of advertising as an art form.
