Wardrobe Basics: Splurge or Save?

I’m torn whenever shopping for new goodies. The permeating question remains: do I splurge or save? Do I buy something cheap that will last me one season or do I spend all my hard earned cash on something with a name brand and exxy price tag?
The truth is that it depends. Sometimes it is definitely better to save your $$$ for that European holiday and buy a Target knockoff, but sometimes spending that little bit extra is  worth it.
Here’s my guide on where to save and where to spend:
The humble staple of any lazy girl’s wardrobe, t-shirts work hard. They can be thrown on with a pair of jeans during the day or put under a blazer for a night out. You can pick up a t-shirt from just about any department store for under $20. However, if you’re feeling like you want to spend that little bit extra, places like Witchery, Country Road and Sportscraft do silk-blend tees for under $100. Although you may hear differently, I definitely believe it is better to save your cash on t-shirts because they’re easy to find  easily replaceable.
Finding the perfect pair of jeans is akin to finding the holy grail. A perfect pair of jeans will slim your legs and lift your butt. Cheaper jeans tend to skimp on quality and are more likely to stretch out. A pricier pair from Lee, Levis or JBrand will keep their shape and last you years.
Finding a bag in the perfect size, shape and price is practically impossible, so when you find one that you love, I urge you to buy it. Simple, medium sized leather bags in black or tan are timeless and hence are worth splurging on. Other bags which are a seasonal/trend piece such as backpacks, duffels and kooky clutches will date quickly and therefore are not worth spending a lot of money on.
These babies are the perfect trans-seasonal item. Throw them on over jeans and a tee or on top of your fancy LBD and you’re good to go! The type of jacket you buy will determine whether you should splurge or save. Timeless items such as black blazers, denim jackets, khaki parkas and tweed coats will be worn endlessly and therefore should be good quality. However, trend pieces such as bomber jackets and waterfall cardigans can be picked up from cheapie stores.
So there you have it! May your shopping trips be joyful xx.
