Watch Movies Under the Stars with Moonlight Cinema
Brisbane film fans can return to the outdoors when Moonlight Cinema returns to Roma St Parklands on November 27th, bringing with it a stellar film line-up that has a little something for everyone.
2020 marks the 25th anniversary of Moonlight Cinema screening movie under the stars. As such, Australia’s favourite outdoor cinema will be bringing their program to Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide, and, of course, Brisbane this November. What’s planned is a summer of film celebration, with movies ranging from Christmas classic to superhero blockbusters, all enjoyed from the wonders of the outdoors.
Brisbane’s opening night is on the 27th of November and will feature the eighties classic Dirty Dancing, as voted by popular demand. What follows is three months of unique cinema entertainment, with special nights such as Superhero Sundays screening beloved comic book adaptations from the last 10 years. This includes the oscar-winning Black Panther, James Gunn’s sci-fi comedy Guardians of the Galaxy, and Taika Waititi’s Thor: Ragnarok – which was partially shot right here in Brisbane!
And while 2020 has seen multiple films delayed until next year, Moonlight Cinema will still be showing some of the best works of cinema that have come out in the last year. The timey-wimey mind-bending action film Tenet will be joined by Liam Neeson’s Honest Thief and the animated family flick Trolls: World Tour, starring Anna Kendrick, Justin Timberlake, and James Corden. Australia’s very own Rams is included as part of an already strong line-up, depicting Sam Neil and Michael Caton as two warring brothers in this touching dramedy.
In the week leading up to Christmas, Moonlight Cinema will be showcasing some iconic holiday movies for every member of the family to enjoy. Elf, Love Actually, Home Alone, and The Nightmare Before Christmas will warm up the Christmas spirit inside you. Likewise, the selection of musicals will help warm up your vocal cords, as you’ll be able to sing along with Hugh Jackman in The Greatest Showman and Ewan McGregor in Moulin Rouge.
To comply with COVID-safe plans and to ensure patron’s comfort and cleanliness, Moonlight Cinema will be rolling out a range of sanitary and personal hygiene measures at the venues. This includes social distancing layouts, an increase in on-site hygiene facilities, contactless payment, and cashless payments. It is highly recommended that people choose to book online if they wish to attend.
Those who do attend will continue to find a cinema-going experience unlike any other. The magic of summer and movies are combined into an unforgettable evening of pristine scenery, quality time with loved ones, and classic movies to enjoy. Moonlight Cinema is a BYO event, so feel free to pack the perfect picnic of movie snacks and delectable treats. It’s important to note that Brisbane’s Moonlight Cinema does not permit BYO alcohol.
Moonlight Cinema offers an outdoor cinema experience that marries together the joy of going out in summer with the wonders of viewing high-quality films. I can’t wait to see you all at Roma St Parklands (from a safe distance of 1.5m, naturally) throughout the next few months as we can continue welcoming back our city’s colourful film culture once again.
