Winter Nights at Alfred & Constance

The second blankets are out, the soup is on the boil and the heaters are radiating; welcome cold winter nights. If you are looking for comfort food to warm your bones there is no other place better than Alfred and Constance.
A&C is a home away from home and with their new winter menu, the tables beyond the white picket fence will be occupied with happy customers. I love winter for the dark mornings, thick doonas and most importantly for the comfort pounds I pack on from all the food. I think I’m going to have to blame A&C in advanced for the weight gain.
The winter menu paints a picture of log fires, hearty flavours and family recipes. We opt for the haloumi sliders and southern deep fried chicken for starters. I was not expecting giant sized drumsticks, but I was pleased indeed, with a sweet almost caramelised sauce and crispy skin. The haloumi sliders were adorable complete with a fresh beetroot slaw.
Lamb shanks are one of my weaknesses and this giant caveman quality meat did not disappoint, served with silky mash, spinach and minted peas and a gravy that oozes comfort. The pumpkin gnocchi was also a crowd pleaser. Again the menu is all about big, bold flavours and these rather large sized gnocchi did not lack in personality. Also available: slow roasted pork belly with a smokey cauliflower puree and and pear and an instagram worthy beer glazed beef short rib. Don’t forget there are beautiful salad options and heart warming cocktails too!
It’s all delicious at A&C! Don’t be shy, order copious amounts as you sit under the heaters, enjoying the open wood fire and watching the chefs work their magic while making your way through each and every dish.
Happy winter eating everyone.
